Loggin in to Omni CMS

When you first logon to Omni CMS, you will see a site listing.

All of the colleges and schools are listed first. Please click the appropriate link depending upon where your department is located.

If you are not a part of a college or school, your site will be in the www site.

After clicking on a site, you arrive at the dashboard.

This is where you will get to your pages. It also shows recent activity, pages you've visited, etc.

If you need to resume working on a page you recently edited, you can click it and the cms will take you right there.


Finding Your Site

When you're at the Dashboard, click on Content > Pages at the top of the screen. This will take you to the file system of the CMS.

Colleges and schools have all of their departmental websites under Departments and Centers.

All of the sites that are not colleges and schools are found in www. There are only a few major content categories and you will most-likely find your site in there:

  • About FAMU
  • Academics
  • Administration
  • Info
  • Students

Using the Search

You can also use the search to find your site as well. You can click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page and search for your site as well.

Bookmarking Your Site

When you find your site, you can bookmark it so it's easy to get back to.

Click on the Plug Icon on the right of the screen right under the Help Icon to expand the Widgets Menu.

Now go down to Bookmarks and book mark your site.


Editing/Creating Pages

When you navigate to the section(directory) where your website is located, you can do the following:

  1. Click on the name of the file you want to open and it will open up in a view that lets you see how the page will look and function. You never have to open the _nav.inc or _props.pcf files as they are system files.
  2. When the page opens up, check the page in by clicking the Lightbulb Icon right next to the Green Publish Button.
  3. Click on one of the Green Edit Icons that will allow you to edit that section of the page.

To create a new page in your section(directory):

  1. Click on the Blue +New Button
  2. Click on one of the template types and a page will be created for you with prepopulated placeholder data.
  3. Now you can begin editing that page.

Creating Sections

If you need to create a new section for your website:

  1. Click on the Blue +New Button
  2. Click on New Section.
  3. Please be mindful of the first form field, the Folder Name as that is the name of the section that will ultimately be a part of the URL.
    Please always make the folder name lower case.
    Please use Dashes - for spaces in between words, e.g. about-famu.
  4. Please provide a Section Title, Page Title, Page Description and Keywords for this particular section.
  5. Please ensure that it's added to the navigation (Yes is selected by default).
  6. Pattern Objects is the defaul landing page type.
  7. You can leave Access Group default (inherit from parent).
  8. Click Create.
  9. Now you can begin editing that page.
